Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that his daughter Dunya Maumoon never left the family’s side even during their traumatic ordeal.
In a tweet on Friday, Maumoon said that he agrees with everything the former foreign minister had said in her interview with news outlet Avas.
“She worked with courage at home and abroad in very difficult circumstances to help me and the whole family. Love her.”
I totally agree with what @dunyamaumoon has said in her interview with @avasmv She never left our side during, before or after our traumatic ordeal. She worked with courage at home and abroad in very difficult circumstances to help me and the whole family. Love her.

In the interview, Dunya said that she had done whatever she could in the country and abroad to free his father, even though she was rarely seen publicly.
Noting the many people who had asked her why she had remained silent, Dunya said that at the time many people who voice their outrage were being jailed and so she had decided not to come out publicly so as not to risk being jailed and unable to find justice for her father by reporting to the international community.
Dunya, who is President Abdulla Yameen’s niece and his first foreign minister, said that when she was living abroad she had worried that she might not be able to return and see her parents again.
