Maldives was announced as ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination’
Leading travel industries across Africa and the Indian Ocean attended the event

Maldives has been heralded the winner of several categories under the 25th annual, World Travel Awards, the most prestigious of its kind in the travel industry.

As such, the winners were announced at a gala ceremony held in Durban, South Africa, in which leading travel brands in the industry amassed at Durban International Convention Center to celebrate the winners of the awards.

Maldives had taken home titles such as Indian Ocean’s Leading Airport, which was awarded to Velana international Airport, Indian Ocean’s Leading Beach destination, Indian Ocean’s Leading Destination as well as Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination.

Some of Maldives leading resorts had also been awarded at the Gala, as such, The Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Maldives had been awarded Indian Ocean’s Leading Family Resort, JA Manafaru as Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon resort, Royal Island Suite at JA Manafaru as Indian Ocean’s Leading Hotel Suite.

Maldives had also won the Leading Leisure Hotel title in the Indian Ocean Category, with Hulhule Island Hotel being crowned.

Other titles Maldives resorts had taken include leading luxury hotel villa, leading luxury island resort, leading luxury water villa, leading water villa resort, most romantic resort, leading beach resort, leading boutique reost, leading family resort, leading honeymoon resort, leading hotel suite, leading villa resort and leading water villa resort among several others.

Moreover, Trans Maldivian Airways won the leading MICE Hotel and leading Seaplane Operator.

Maldives, described as an island paradise, had won in these categories having competed against Mauritius and Seychelles.

Maldives hosts awarding ceremonies to celebrate leading travel brands in the country as well. As such, Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO) hosts three awarding ceremonies annually to honor frontrunners in the industry.

MATATO also endorses the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA), which is the first ever regional travel awards that recognizes excellence in facilities and services provided by the tourism sector of the region. It aims to encourage and raise service standards in the region’s tourism industry.
