After the Supreme Court ruled not to nullify the presidential election result on Sunday, the opposition coalition urged authorities to investigated President Abdulla Yameen.
Speaking to the press outside the courthouse, Hassan Latheef, the chairperson of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), said that President Yameen has been implicated in numerous cases of corruption and embezzlement.
Hassan Latheef said that these cases should be investigated, even if it means arresting the outgoing president, and that if he was to flee the country, authorities should also target those who aided his departure.

Also speaking to the press, Hisaan Hussain, the attorney who represented the opposition in the case, said that President Yameen was unable to present any evidence to support his claim that the election had been rigged.
Adhaalath Party’s deputy leader Ali Zahir expressed disappointment that the apex court’s time was wasted in dealing with such a nonsensical case.
