People have begun queueing up outside the Supreme Court building four hours prior to the commencement of the second hearing in the trial of the constitutional case filed by ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives regarding the Presidential Election.

Many people had gathered by the Supreme Court at 06:00 a.m to queue up for the hearing, some of whom include activists of the ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives) PPM) as well as joint opposition coalition.

The Supreme Court house accommodates up to a maximum of 30 observers, however it is likely that a way will be paved so as to allow a maximum amount of people to join today’s hearing.

While people began queueing up hours prior to the beginning of the trial, the first hearing of the trial scheduled on Sunday also saw a long herd of people queued up three hours prior to the commencement of the hearing.

While officers of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) are in charge of maintaining security at the court premises, they will be examining those that enter the court hearing.

The second hearing has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m on Monday and people may begin noting down their names to join the hearing at 08:30 a.m.

While the first hearing to annul the 2018 Presidential Election result concluded around 04:30 p.m. on Sunday having begun at 01:00 p.m., the opposition coalition and the Elections Commission (EC) had slammed outgoing President Abdulla Yameen, with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) member Ahmed Saleem representing President Yameen, Hisaan Hussain representing the opposition coalition parties and prominent lawyer Hussain Shameem representing the EC.

The Supreme Court had ordered the EC to testify in the case, and the opposition coalition had also decided to testify.
