EC has been given the opportunity to answer to the case on Saturday

Former Attorney General and prominent lawyer Husnu Al Suood has said that the Supreme Court trial on the constitutional case lodged by President Abdulla Yameen regarding the Presidential Election, must be opened to the public.

In a tweet on Thursday, he said that the trial must be broadcasted on live television as well, since it is linked to public peace.

Following the case filed on President Yameen’s behalf, the Supreme Court has requested the Elections Commission to answer to it before 11am Saturday.

President Abdulla Yameen's attorneys have said that he submitted the constitutional case following numerouse complaints sent to his party's office and to his legal team regarding the election which he had lost by a wide margin.

Although President Yameen initially conceded his defeat, he has since been accusing the Elections Commission of vote rigging, and calling on his supporters to protest the election result.
