Hamdhoon Rasheed has been appointed to the post of Commissioner of Police.
Hamdhoon served as Assistant Commissioner of Police before his promotion. While Hamdhoon was appointed to the post of Assistant Police Commissioner in early February, he previously served as a Chief Superintendent.
Hamdhoon’s appointment as Commissioner of Police comes after Acting Commissioner of Police Abdulla Nawaz was transferred to the Ministry of Environment and Energy.
Following opposition fielded candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s triumph over outgoing President Abdulla Yameen in the Presidential polls held on the 23rd of September, the security forces had shown solidarity with the new President-elect, having stated that they will uphold the choice of the citizens.
Former ACP Nawaz had even met with President-elect Solih following his win.
