Jumhooree Party (JP) leader Qasim Ibrahim and Dhiggaru constituency MP Ahmed Faris Maumoon have been released on bail.

Both were released by the High Court on Sunday evening, with Judge Shujau Usman signing their court orders.

While Faris was released after paying a bond of MVR 40,000, Qasim paid MVR 70,000.

MP Faris was sentenced to four months and 24 days in prison in July after being found guilty of ‘identity theft’, after the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) accused him of using its logo and flag ‘without permission’.

Qasim was found guilty of offering bribes to fellow lawmakers in August 2017, and was sentenced to three years, two months and 12 days in prison. He has been living in self-exile in Germany since November 2017.
