President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated Ahmed Latheef as the Director General of Transition.
After Elections Commission (EC) confirmed that Solih won the presidential election, his spokesperson Mariya Ahmed Didi said that they are working to appoint the officials to be in charge of procedures regarding the transition of power.
Latheef is a former Maldives ambassador to China as well as a popular national table tennis player.
Spokesperson Mariya also said that Henveiru MP and former speaker Abdulla Shahid will be handling the transition procedures on behalf of president-elect Solih.
According to regulations, the Civil Service Commission will appoint the Director General of Transition on the recommendation of the president-elect.
The current administration is also required to nominate a Director General of Transition, but it has not yet done so.
