An expatriate has succumbed to injuries attained after a fatal fall into a pit while engaged in the installation of sewerage pipes in Utheemu island of Haa Alif atoll.

RaajjeMV understands that the expatriate died while receiving treatment for his injuries in Haa Alif atoll Hospital in Dhihdhoo island.

Media official at the Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the expatriate was of Bangladeshi nationality and that he had succumbed to injuries attained due to a fatal fall into a pit.

The incident occurred at around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday and he was first treated at the health center in Utheemu island. However, he was rushed to Dhihdhoo island for further treatment due to deteriorations to his condition.

RaajjeMV was unable to attain a comment from the island council as the council had not answered the station’s calls.

The installation of a sewerage system in the island is a government-funded project which cost over MVR 13 million from the state budget and was contracted to Sasi Constructions Private Limited.
