Maldives security forces congratulate newly elected president and VP
Police and MNDF said that they will do 'everything' to uphold the people's decision

Following Saturday’s announcement of the final results of the 2018 presidential election, Maldives’ security forces have congratulated newly elected President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Reading out a joint statement by the Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) on Saturday, police spokesperson Ahmed Shifan congratulated Solih and running mate Faisal Naseem on their win ‘on behalf of both the police and military’.

Noting that they will do ‘everything’ to uphold the people’s decision, Shifan appealed on the people to refrain from doing anything to disrupt the transition period.

According to final results, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Faisal won against incumbent President Abdulla Yameen and running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, with 134,705 votes to 96,052 votes.
