Elections Commission (EC) has stated that it received 423 complaints regarding the September 23 presidential election but none that was potentially result-changing.

At a press conference on Saturday, EC’s president Ahmed Shareef said that they have evaluated all the complaints filed at the National Complaints Bureau and have responded to 229 of those.

He detailed that there are 194 complaints that have yet to be responded to, and that 12 of the complaints filed up until September 27 were regarding re-registration, seven were regarding influencing the election, two were regarding the voters list, 41 were regarding the placement of the polling station, and 38 were regarding voters having to submit their phones and handbags to the polling station.

23 complaints were submitted regarding the EC having an extra list and 28 were regarding the U.V. lights. Three complaints were regarding filled-up ballot boxes, one was regarding nullified ballot papers, and six were regarding the campaigns.

42 complaints were filed regarding the procedures on election day, 11 were regarding vote counting, three were regarding the ballot papers, 11 were regarding the observers and monitors, and five were regarding the EC officials. One complaint was regarding ID card fraud, one over placing votes without writing down names, and three were regarding bribery.

EC chief Shareef said that these complaints, after investigation from the complaints bureau, will not change the final result of the elections and that they did not delay announcing the elections result because of outside pressure.

He added that the procedures for the presidential election had largely gone peacefully.
