Maldives Elections Commission has announced that its official twitter account has been hacked.

The Commission had, at around 10:50pm on Friday night, tweeted that it has endorsed the final result of the 2018 presidential election, adding that there are no differences between final and preliminary results.

However, spokesperson Ahmed Akram said, in the media Viber group, that the account was hacked prior to the said tweet.

He made the announcement at 11:26pm.

Earlier on Friday, Commission member Ismail Habeeb tweeted that ‘the five election commissioners have endorsed the final outcome of the Presidential Election’, adding that ‘there were no significant changes from the interim results’.

According to the Commission, they will be announcing the final results at a press conference on Saturday morning.

According to preliminary results, Joint Opposition’s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih won 58.4 percent of the votes, against incumbent President Abdulla Yameen.
