The Elections Commission of the Maldives has stated that they will be announcing the final results of Sunday’s Presidential polls on the 30th of September, or possibly sooner.

Elections Commission member and spokesperson Ahmed Akram told RaajjeMV that they will be announcing the final results of the polls on Sunday or sooner since the deadline as stated under the Maldives constitution, to announce the results is the 30th of September.

The spokesperson further revealed that there has been a delay in announcing the final result as the commission is yet to receive some of the ballot boxes.

“Final results will be announced once we attain the ballot boxes, along with their original result sheets. We are yet to receive some of the ballot boxes stationed in some regions during the election day” said Akram.

When inquired if any other complaints have been submitted to the commission besides the ones already submitted before the day of the election, Akram responded that they have not received any information of a complaint submitted in addition to the 78 complaints submitted earlier.

The results on Sunday showed that Solih won with 58 percent, leading the votes with 134,616 votes which is the highest a candidate has received in a presidential election in the country.
