With just three days to election day, incumbent President Abdulla Yameen's running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has admitted that 'there are issues' with the current administration.
He made the admission during a gathering of religious scholars 'standing with President Yameen' on Wednesday night.
However, he said that this is not reason enough to change the administration 'and hand it over to individuals and organizations with different beliefs'.
The former Islamic minister was seen in the frontlines during the alleged coup in 2012 that ousted former President Mohamed Nasheed.
While he claims that there are no such issues that require a change in government, there have been multiple allegations against Yameen, including corruption and misuse of state resources.
Shaheem, the first Islamic minister in the current administration, resigned from the post after his then-party, Adhaalath Party's request to all government appointees following the arrest of leader Imran Abdulla. While he officially left the party in early 2017, he joined the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in July 2018 after being selected as Yameen;s running mate.
