The state-run Housing Development Corporation has pardoned all housing related fines imposed on residents of Hulhumalé.

The fines were pardoned, as presidential ballots near, as a means to ‘ease’ the housing situation for residents, the corporation said.

The corporation said that the decision was made under advisement from the government, and it part of the government’s ‘leniency’ policy.

The corporation also said that any outstanding amounts have been accounted for, and that debtors will be given a way to easily make these payments.

The state has not revealed how much the pardoned fines amount to.
