The ruling Progressive Party of Maldives has on Tuesday night unveiled their manifesto for the upcoming elections.

The manifesto was unveiled, as planned and announced earlier, at Tuesday night’s mass rally held at the stadium in Maafannu ward of capital city Malé.

The manifesto promises key development in tourism, fishing, maritime trade, finance, information technology, agriculture, social protection, education, health, infrastructure and for the youth. The promises for each of these sectors are listed in their manifesto.

As expressed in the manifesto, the ruling party’s ‘guiding principles’ for the next five years are religious and social unity, adhering to the rule of law, economic development, upholding democratic values, and playing a leading role in global warming and climate change action.

Incumbent President Abdulla Yameen is seekig re-election and the manifesto comes only days ahead of the ballots, scheduled for Sunday, 23rd September. President Yameen had earlier said at a rally that the manifesto would be a 'surprise'.
