Prominent business tycoon and President Abdulla Yameen’s brother-in-law, Mohamed “Ellaidhoo” Manik has passed away at the age of 57.

Manik, who was married to jailed ex-strongman Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and President Yameen’s sister Muslima Abdul Gayoom, passed away late Saturday night while receiving treatment at Apollo Hospital in Chennai, India.

RaajjeMV understands that while it has been three months since Manik has been ailing, Manik’s health had deteriorated on Saturday morning, and he had been receiving treatment for liver and kidney failure at the time of his death.

Manik had previously been taken to Sri Lanka due to ailing health, however, he had since been taken to India since treatments in Sri Lanka did not show any improvement.

While wife Muslima Abdul Gayoom was in India at the time of Manik’s death, the eldest Gayoom remains behind bars under convictions condemned by many as unjust and his half-brother Abdulla Yameen was at a campaign gathering in Fonadhoo island of Laamu atoll. Upon learning of the news, the president announced it to those at the gathering, concluding it.
