The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has begun distributing Zakat to the poverty-stricken, on Tuesday.
Islamic Ministry revealed that they will be making the distributions from Tuesday till Thursday from 09:00 a.m. to 03:00 p.m. and it is to commence at the Islamic Center hall in capital city Male’.
Moreover, the ministry added that they had sent funds for poverty-stricken families in the outlying atolls except Addu, Fuvahmulah and Thinadhoo island in Gaaf Dhaalu atolls. This year, Zakat payments will be distributed MVR 1,000 per head.
While 3,302 individuals, registered in 2017 as underprivileged citizens, are to receive zakat payments with the total of underprivileged citizens across outlying atolls except in Addu, Fuvahmulah and Thinadhoo reach 9,992.
The ministry previously stated that those who are unable to collect their zakat payments may send another individual with their ID cards, and that the ministry will give zakat to anyone who comes with the ID cards of individuals registered as underprivileged.
The ministry is to release 150 tokens for each day and a maximum of 15 ID cards will be accepted for each token.
