Government leadership should not focus on a battle between a few houses, says Dr. Mohamed Shaheem, the ruling party’s running mate.

Speaking at a campaign event in Hanimaadhoo on Saturday night, Dr. Shaheem said government leadership should be handed over to a new generation and that President Abdulla Yameen should be the one to make it happen.

Dr. Shaheem said that people voting for change is over since the necessary legal reforms have already been made.

He said that there would be no additional changes to make for a government led by the opposition coalition and that giving them leadership would only lead to a halt in the development projects. He added that the coalition would soon be dissolved after being elected, making it difficult to lead the government.

Noting that the coalition that helped elect former President Mohamed Nasheed in 2008 broke up within 21 days, Dr. Shaheem said Maldivians have already experienced the leadership of a coalition made up of different political agendas.
