A property used by Hoarafushi island’s branch of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), as a camp site, has been vandalized.

Ahmed Imdhah, a member of the Haa Alif island’s local government council, said that the property’s glass walls had been shattered with a brick.

Imdhah said that the Joint Opposition’s supporters and office workers had worked late into Friday night and the office would only have been empty after about 2:30 am.

He said that he, and members of the party and their coalition partners in the Joint Opposition, believe that the property was vandalized at a time between 3:30 am and 4:30 am.

The property is used to organize and hold the party’s activities on the island. It is the only property used by the party branch there, and members believe it is an attempt to intimidate them.
