A young man has died after being stabbed in the neck near the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) in Male’ on Friday night.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, ADK Hospital managing director Ahmed Affal said the 19-year-old was most probably dead when he was brought to the hospital at 7:30pm but that doctors had tried to revive him.
Witnesses said the incident occurred at 7:15pm and that the assailant came towards the victim from the front and stabbed him in the middle of the neck, the victim then immediately fell to the ground and moved frantically while struggling to breathe.
Incidences of assault in Male’ and Hulhumale’ have spiked recently, with the latest occurring on Tuesday night when a man was injured after an assailant stabbed him with a knife.
