Former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb’s wife Mariyam Nashwa has said that President Abdulla Yameen is enjoying the fact that Adeeb is severely ill in prison.
In a tweet on Monday, Nashwa said President Yameen is well aware of his second vice president’s medical condition.
She said that President Yameen knows that Adeeb is at risk due to medical negligence and that he has never denied the severity of his medical status or dismissed it as untrue.
“He knows that Adeeb’s life is absolutely in danger and is enjoying it!”
In a recent speech, President Yameen has that people indebted to the state has no rights and that he is ‘ready’ to send Adeeb abroad for medical treatment after he returns the money stolen from Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC).
In a subsequent letter to the police, Adeeb’s legal team highlighted that he has not been convicted over graft and requested the acting commissioner to investigate the president for hindering Adeeb’s right to medical treatment.
Adeeb is serving prison sentences totaling 33 years and his family and attorneys have said that he is suffering from major health issues including glaucoma and kidney stones.
