Maldivians should elect a leader that values justice and refrains from acts of graft or corruption, in the upcoming presidential elections, says religious scholar Sheikh Ilyas Hussain.

Sheikh Ilyas, a member of the opposition Adhaalath Party’s scholars committee, said this in a post extending greetings on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

“In the future, when we elect our leaders, let us choose one who values justice, loves his people, refrains from corruption, and does right by his position. In this way, we can ensure progress and unity in our country”, the post said.

The Adhaalath Party is in a coalition with the Jumhooree Party, the Maumoon Reform Movement, and the Maldivian Democratic Party.

The coalition was formed in order to address copious allegations of corruption and centralization of power in the Maldives.

The Joint Opposition’s presidential candidate for the upcoming ballots is longstanding lawmaker, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
