The opposition Adhaalath Party has filed a complaint of identity fraud with the police against four individuals who allegedly used the party name.

Case details say that said individuals had organized and held a press conference under the party’s name and given information to the press.

The party alleges that some of these individuals, who had called news organizations and spoke to them claiming to be members of the party, do not belong to the party.

Adhaalath’s statement says that while some of the individuals at said press conference are members of the party, their case is only against those who are not.

Panelists of the press conference, where only news organizations that publicly support the government were invited, told them that the Adhaalath Party has not been following the ideology it was formed to represent.

The Maldives Police Service has thus far not shared any details of whether or not the complaint has been accepted.
