Opposition coalition’s Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed that a unity government led by the coalition will be a national government and called on members of ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) as well as other parties to join the coalition.

Speaking to residents in Raa atoll Hulhudhuffaaru island on Thursday, Solih said that the government led by the opposition coalition will be that of the citizens, where citizens will have a say in it.

The opposition candidate stated that he did not wish to lead the country by gathering all of the powers, adding that a coalition government will comprise all the political parties, after the September ballots.

Solih further said that the Joint Opposition coalition will head into the Parliament election, as well as the Local Council election in unity, after the Presidential Election slated for the 23rd of September concludes.

The opposition candidate further expressed his delight that a water and sewerage system was successfully installed in the island during main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s administration, adding that he will ensure roads are developed in an adequate manner and a solution is brought to the land erosion issue in the island during his tenure.

Solih had shared his plans to provide housing units to the residents of the island during his tenure on his trip to the island on Thursday.

Solih and team began their Raa atoll tour on Wednesday, as part of the opposition's campaign for the upcoming Presidential Election.
