Former President Mohamed Nasheed and Joint Opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih have conveyed condolences to the people of Kerala following devastating floods.

In a tweet on Sunday, Solih said that Maldivians are linked in various ways to Kerala and expressed hope that Kerala residents and Maldivians in the Indian state are safe.

Also on Twitter, Nasheed, who has recently been chosen as Solih’s campaign manager, said that his thoughts and prayers are with the people of Kerala “as the worst floods in a century affect the state.”

“The rise in extreme weather events due to human induced climate change and its human and financial costs are increasingly evident.”

More than 350 people have died in the floods while thousands remain marooned due to landslides and floods caused by the monsoon rains.
