MCS officials 'angered' over government's negligence, discrimination
An MCS high-ranking official told RaajjeMV that the Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan had met with senior officials of the institution on Monday
He said Shihan looked 'extremely disheartened'
Some of their concerns include staff shortage, lack of resources, as well as issues with infrastructure and salaries

Senior officials of the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) have expressed concern over the government's negligence towards their staff.

An MCS high-ranking official told RaajjeMV that the Commissioner of Prisons Ahmed Shihan had met with senior officials of the institution on Monday, to discuss the various hardships faced by their employees.

The official that spoke to RaajjeMV on the condition of anonymity also took part in the said meeting, where the Commissioner is said to have revealed that the government has failed to respond to their various concerns.

Noting that Shihan looked 'extremely disheartened', the official said that he asked to take the matter to all relevant figures 'to find solutions'.

Some of their concerns include staff shortage, lack of resources, as well as issues with infrastructure and salaries.

The official emphasized that 'all these have been shared with the government numerous times, to no avail'.

He further accused the government of discriminating them from other similar institutions, highlighting programmes such as 'special flat schemes' for officers of Maldives Police Service and Maldives National Defence Service.

Noting that its over 600 officers and employees are being deprived of any such opportunities, the official highlighted that this has discouraged them.
