Maldives opposition's presidential candidate, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the major islands that showed support for President Abdulla Yameen 'have changed now'.
Solih said this while speaking to the residents of Guraidhoo island of Thaa atoll on Sunday; he is currently on a tour of the atoll as part of the opposition's campaign for this year's presidential election.
Noting that the incumbent president has lost support from the major islands including Guraidhoo, Solih emphasized that 'the whole country has said no to autocracy'.
He said that Yameen had won 93 percent from Guraidhoo in the 2013 presidential election, adding that this had decreased to 69 percent in the 2014 parliament election.
He added that this shows that the citizens of Guraidhoo island 'are against tyranny'.
In addition, the presidential hopeful vowed to conduct various development projects in the island, including to complete ones that have been pending for the past five years.
Also speaking at the gathering, MDP's Guraidhoo Wing president noted that the people's beliefs have started changing and added that they 'will show this through a vote'.
