Ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) Deputy Leader Abdulla Raheem Abdulla has refuted reports stating that re-registration forms had not been submitted from the ruling party, also refuting opposition coalition’s assertion that they had submitted 17,000 registration forms at the Elections Commission.
Speaking at a ruling party press conference held on Thursday evening, Raheem, who is also the Member of Parliament for Fonadhoo constituency, said that the delay in submitting the re-registration forms of PPM is because they are following the verification process thoroughly.
“The opposition continues to claim that 17,000 out of the 24,000 registration forms submitted at the Elections Commission were submitted by them. EC’s President Shareef had today itself revealed that the forms submitted by MDP do not even reach 10,000. We believe what the commission says” said the MP.
Raheem said that the opposition is attempting to slander and tarnish the good image of officers of the police and military in the registration issues that have recently surfaced.
Referring to the delay in registering forms of companies and state offices, Raheem said that forms of PPM supporting belonging to state offices are being processed through President Yameen’s office and that they are being verified and sent to the EC efficiently.
PPM’s Deputy Leader also revealed that President Yameen’s candidacy will be submitted before the 10th of August, going on to give his assurance that the ruling party will win the approaching September election.
Responding to a question posed by a reporter asking if Raheem believes opposition coalition must also be given the equal opportunity to campaign across the nation, Raheem said that the equal opportunity must be given to the opposition coalition and that other contestants will also be granted security during campaign activities.
According to Raheem, there are no candidates more competent than President Yameen, adding that he will win the election by a huge margin.
