EC revealed that the missing slips are due to Police verification process

Main Opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has said that while 18,000 re-registration forms were submitted from the party thus far, registration slips for 2,000 out of them are missing.

Opposition coalition’s Presidential hopeful Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s spokesperson and Member of Parliament for North-Mahchangoalhi constituency Mariya Ahmed Didi said that they had been notified by the Elections Commission that the 2,000 registration slips are missing due to the forms being verified by the Maldives Police Service (MPS). Mariya shared the opposition party’s worry regarding the issue.

“The applicants of those 2,000 forms need to be notified of this matter. We are worried that those 2,000 applicants may be deprived of their voting rights by the time the 11th August passes with the verifications still pending” said Mariya.

Mariya appeals on citizens to re-do the re-registration process If they did not receive a registration slip during the process the first time around.

While the Elections Commission had on Wednesday revealed that over 24,000 people have registered for the day of the ballots thus far, the deadline for re-registration is set for the 11th of August and this year’s election have 262,000 eligible voters.

The commission is to place over 490 ballot boxes throughout the nation and abroad for the upcoming Presidential Election slated for the 23rd of September.
