Women & Democracy has expressed concern over employees in state-owned enterprises being forced to re-register by their employers.

At a press conference held by the NGO’s election observation committee, the NGO’s president Shafaath Ahmed said that they have received complaints from employees and condemn such actions.

She said that re-registering and voting is the right of every citizen and that only they can choose to re-register to their preferred voting locations.

Women & Deomcracy’s COO Aishath Sheeza said that ministers have established special teams to carry out re-registration work. She also noted that a video has been made public that implicated the wife of a presidential candidate of receiving re-registration applications from government-affiliated companies.

The NGO’s election observation committee member Ahmed Naseer said that the current situation shows that the Elections Commission (EC) is being influenced from all sides and he called on the commission to act according to regulations.

Women & Deomcracy is an NGO that advocates for democracy and female empowerment. It has opened the opportunity for people to join its election observation committee.
