Maumoon Reform Movement
Breakaway faction of PPM begins representing Gayoom under 'Maumoon Reform Movement'

'PPM's leadership will be handed over to rightful leader very soon'

The movement officially started on Thursday morning

Supporters of jailed former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom from the Maldives Joint Opposition parties have begun activities under “Maumoon Reform Movement”.

As such, supporters from the Gayoom’s breakaway faction of the Ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) had at the walk held on Thursday morning represented the movement by using pink tinted banners reading “MRM”. The walk was held from main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to the Elections Commission’s office to kick off the submission of candidacy papers of opposition coalition Presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his running mate MP for Kaashidhoo constituency Faisal Naseem.

Supporters of the former President who is also half-brother of incumbent President Abdulla Yameen, said that they will be using flags with the logo, “MRM” to represent Gayoom’s breakaway faction of PPM in the joint opposition’s campaign activities in the future. They revealed that “Maumoon Reform Movement” is not a separate political party, adding that soon in the near future, PPM’s leadership will be handed to its rightful leader.

Although leadership of the ruling party had been snatched from Gayoom and handed to President Yameen by influencing the court ruling, supporters of Gayoom stated that the party will be handed over to its rightful leader in the near future.
