Maldives Police Service (MPS) has assured that 'there were no other vehicles involved' in the accident that killed an 18-year-old in Hulhumalé last Friday.

Mohamed Jazlaan succumbed to injuries sustained in the accident while receiving medical attention at Tree Top Hospital.

Police released a press statement on Tuesday, stating that some local media outlets have been spreading false information regarding the accident.

Denying these reports, police said that officers stationed at a nearby check-post received the accident report at around 8:43pm on July 20, and that they 'immediately headed to the scene and transported the accident victim to Hulhumalé Hospital in a pickup that was at the scene'.

Police added that Jazlaan had died after being transferred to Tree Top Hospital.

In order to prove there was no foul play, police also publicized CCTV footage of the accident, which shows a motorcyclist crashing to the ground after losing control of the vehicle.

Police further revealed that Jazlaan did not have a license to operate any vehicles, and added that he had previously been stopped six times for driving without a license.
