The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has lent assistance to 'Handheygiri', a vessel that stopped in the middle of its journey between two islands in the capital atoll due to engine failure.

The incident was reported at about 9:17am on Tuesday and the vessel was carrying 50 individuals at the time, including 10 crewmen.

The MNDF had carried the passengers and crewmen to capital city Malé and informed RaajjeMV that none of the people onboard were harmed in anyway.

The ferry operator had also sent another vessel to pick up some of the passengers and the crewmen. Handheygiri was travelling from Malé to Maafushi island.
