Maldives and Zambia have discussed on ways to further strengthen the existing ties between both nations.

The new non-resident ambassador of Zambia to Maldives Judith K.K.Kan'goma-Kapijimpanga called on President Abdulla Yameen on Monday, and both parties discussed on ways to 'further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, and on exploring further areas of cooperation, including the tourism sector and human resource development'.

At the ceremony held at the President's Office, President Yameen also congratulated Ambassador Judith on the commencement of her term.

Highlighting the strong bilateral relations between Maldives and Zambia, the President noted that both countries 'share common views on an array of issues of mutual interest, specifically on issues related to the international arena, and highlighted importance of women empowerment'.

"The President also exchanged ideas with the Zambian Ambassador, regarding matters where the Maldives and Zambia could share knowledge and experience", added the President's Office.

Ambassador Judith also expressed hope and confidence 'to continue working closely with the Maldives, and further consolidating the existing relations between the two countries'.

Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim and Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer accompanied the President at the call.

Ambassador Judith also held a separate meeting with the foreign minister on Monday, as well as the Secretary Bilateral at the ministry, Ahmed Khaleel.

Maldives and Zambia established diplomatic relations in April this year.
