EC now accepting applications to observe presidential elections
Applications are open from 23rd July to 14th August
State and political party officials at an event held by the Elections Commission to announce a date for the 2018 presidential elections
The Elections Commission of the Maldives is now accepting applications to observe and monitor the upcoming presidential elections.
In a circular on Monday, the commission said that applications are open from 23rd July to 14th August. Applicants can be from the media, a political party, a civil society organization, or an individual.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must not currently be accused of a criminal charge or serving one.
Further, unless applied through a political party, they must also be non-partisan and not be registered with any party. Individuls currently involved with the commission’s preparation and electoral process are also not eligible.
The polls are currently scheduled for 23rd September.
