The Elections Commission of the Maldives is now accepting applications to observe and monitor the upcoming presidential elections.

In a circular on Monday, the commission said that applications are open from 23rd July to 14th August. Applicants can be from the media, a political party, a civil society organization, or an individual.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must not currently be accused of a criminal charge or serving one.

Further, unless applied through a political party, they must also be non-partisan and not be registered with any party. Individuls currently involved with the commission’s preparation and electoral process are also not eligible.

The polls are currently scheduled for 23rd September.
