Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has begun another door-to-door campaign in Male’ to gather support for President Abdulla Yameen.

Running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed was also at the campaign inauguration ceremony at the PPM office on Friday evening.

However, the ruling party stated that Dr. Shaheem will not be joining the door-to-door campaign. Speaking at the inaugration ceremony, he expressed hope that the campaign will get good results.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, PPM deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that the door-to-door campaign in Male’ is being headed by members of the cabinet to increase support for President Yameen.

Tourism minister Moosa Zameer said that while previously they only visited Male’ residents, this time they will also visit atoll residents living in the capital city and promote President Yameen and running mate Dr. Shaheem.

Videos circulated on social media of the ruling party’s previous door-to-door campaign, in which residents confronted the campaign team and expressed their concern over government oppression, the imprisonment of political leaders, and alleged government corruption. Their campaign was halted for a time due to public condemnation after the videos went viral.
