Former Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has condemned the attacks on opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s campaign team on Tuesday.
In a tweet after the attacks, Dr. Jameel said that President Abdulla Yameen’s regime has shown its ugly side in the presidential campaign “as expected.”
The first vice president of Yameen’s administration also accused President Yameen of using gangs and extremists as a tool.
In the tweet, he also urged the international community to observe the situation in Maldives “as serious threats on candidates’ lives persist.”

Opposition candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s campaign team was confronted multiple times during their door-to-door campaign in Hulhumale’ on Tuesday. Attackers had also thrown oil-filled packets at them, but Solih’s team managed to conclude their campaign activities in Hulhumale’ successfully.
