He said that Solih will be provided security "if requested"
The opposition candidate was targeted while out conducting campaign activities on Tuesday
Police say they are investigating the attempted attack

Home Minister Azleen Ahmed has condemned the attempted attack on opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

The minister told RaajjeMV that he condemns the attempted attack "in the strongest terms".

Noting that Solih is a presidential candidate, Azleen said that he will be provided police security "if requested".

In addition, Maldives Police Service said that they are investigating the incident that took place in the capital's suburban district Hulhumalé on Tuesday evening, but refused to comment further on the matter.

Solih was targeted while conducting door-to-door campaign activities in Hulhumalé as he has been doing for the past few days.

RaajjeMV journalists Aminath Nuzha, who was covering Solih's campaign activities, said that two men had attempted to attack him shortly after he arrived in Hulhumalé and that he had to be taken behind a vehicle for safety purposes.
