The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing regarding the removal of 12 opposition MPs.
RaajjeMV understands that the hearing is at 1:30pm, Thusrday.
The Supreme Court issued a temporary order to keep the 12 MPs from attending parliamentary sittings until it gives its verdict regarding the Elections Commission’s decision to unseat them.
The Supreme Court has held only one hearing regarding the issue so far.
According to sources, the case is being handled by the court’s full bench. It is noteworthy that after the conviction of Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed and Justice Ali Hameed, judges Abdulla Didi and Abdul Ghanee Mohamed have recently been appointed to the vacated seats at the Supreme Court.
It has been a year since the government has been using security to keep the 12 MPs out of parliament. The new state budget was approved without the MPs, and so were last year’s bills.
The opposition has stated that their removal also undermines the rights of 60,000 citizens.
