Indian Ambassador Akhilesh Mishra has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after senior ruling party lawmaker Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik was denied entry to India.

According to information received by RaajjeMV, Mishra was summoned to the ministry on Tuesday for a meeting with Bilateral Secretary Ahmed Haleel after Nihan claimed that he was denied entry into India due to his political affiliations.

In the meeting, Mishra was questioned on why Nihan was stopped and questioned at an Indian airport before being ordered to return to the Maldives on the earliest flight.

Nihan had evidently travelled to India for medical treatment. After returning to Maldives, he held a press conference at Hotel Jen at which he told reporters that he was held by Immigration for a long time and that, when he presented told them he was a senior ruling party lawmaker, he faced further obstruction and was held for over four hours.

Nihan is one of the staunchest supporters of the current administraton, which has alienated itself from the international community due to its hostile foreign policy.
