A Maldivian citizen has been arrested with a copious amount of narcotic substances in Sri Lanka.

According to some Sri Lankan media outlets, the Maldivian was arrested with 2.39 kilos of heroin, at the departure terminal at Bandaranaike International Airport.

Citing the police, reports say that the amount of heroin seized was worth Rs. 24 million or USD 300,000.

Furthermore, it noted that an investigation into the matter by Lanka's Police Narcotics Bureau showed that the Maldivian suspect 'had travelled back and forth from Sri Lanka 15 times since 2016'.

Minuwangoda Magistrate Court issued him a seven day remand on Wednesday, as the Narcotics Bureau continues the investigation.

Some media outlets report that Sri Lankan police media officer, SP Ruwan Gunasekera had said that 'several contacts of the suspect connected to drug smuggling had been revealed' since the arrest.

Earlier this month, two Maldivians were arrested in the largest ecstasy bust in Lanka.
