Sangu TV was also asked to apologize.

Sangu TV has paid off a fine of MVR 100,000 to Maldives Broadcasting Commission (Broadcom) on Monday.

Sangu TV's Managing Director, Ibrahim Waheed (Asward) confirmed that the station paid the full amount to Broadcom at 9:30 am on Monday. The payment was delivered in the fund box opened to collect money to pay off the fine.

Broadcom fined Sangu TV on 8th December last year, because the station live broadcasted a speech by MP Musthafa 'defaming' President Abdulla Yameen.

Sangu TV was charged with a fine of MVR 100,000 and asked to send an official apology for broadcasting the speech. However, the station said that they will send the apology depending on the court's decision regarding the issue of the hefty sums being charged as fines.

It is the first time Sangu TV has been fined under the Defamation Law.
