Police summons MP Faisal Naseem over 'inciting riots'
He is summoned over allegations of attempting to incite riots against the government

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has summoned MP Faisal Naseem for questioning over an ongoing investigation.

The opposition aligned lawmaker is to attend the MPS headquarters in capital city Malé, the Shaheed Hussein Adam Building, at 13:30 on Tuesday.

RaajjeMV understands that the police are investigating the parliamentarian over allegations of attempting to incite riots and violence against the government.

MP Faisal’s comments at a demonstration held last month in capital city Malé, calling for judicial independence and the president’s resignation, is the grounds on which he is being investigated.

Faisal, who represents the Kaashidhoo constituency, had called on his constituents and other supporters of President Abdulla Yameen’s opponents, in the outlying islands, to rally in order to force the incumbent ruler into resignation.
