The Maldives Customs Service has seized three parcels containing tablets that tested positive to be the psychoactive drug MDMA (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine).

The customs revealed that the tablets were shipped to Addu City through the national postage service on Monday.

A post on the customs’ official Twitter account says that the parcels contained a total of 503 tablets.

'Ecstacy' or 'E' is the colloquial name for the drug.

Prior to the seize, a post on Facebook by a local called MDMA the ‘new drug in school’ and reported of its sudden spread in the capital.

However, the Maldives Police Service has denied seeing a rise in the drug as of late.

Police have arrested the individual to whom the parcels were shipped.
