Maldive Gas has placed a limit on the sale of cooking gas cylinders.
The company disclosed that rising global gas prices have created significant challenges in importing gas to the Maldives. It further stated that despite these difficulties, a temporary adjustment has been made to the volume of gas filled in cylinders to ensure the uninterrupted provision of services to the public.
Accordingly, the company stated that 10kg cylinders will now be filled with 7kg of gas, 22kg cylinders with 14kg of gas, and 45kg cylinders with 31kg of gas.
Maldive Gas has confirmed that despite these changes, gas prices will not increase, and charges will continue to be applied at the currently established rates.
Furthermore, Maldive Gas has stated that efforts are currently underway to increase the country's gas storage capacity. The company noted that the completion of this project will provide a permanent solution to the issue.
Following a shortage of lightweight cylinders in February this year, Maldive Gas has once again implemented restrictions on cooking gas sales. During March, the company limited distribution by refilling 10kg cylinders with only 5kg of gas to manage the supply.
