R. Meedhoo Hospital Project: No progress beyond foundation stone laying ceremony held ahead of council elections!
17 އޮކްޓޯބަރު 2026 | ހޮނިހިރު 07:34Moosa Ali Manik, the MDP National Council President for the Maduvvari constituency, has expressed concern over the stalled construction of a 30-bed hospital in R. Meedhoo, a project initially contracted to RDC. Although the government has stated that administrative procedures are underway to transfer the project to MTCC, the continued delays have drawn sharp criticism regarding the implementation speed of President Muizzu’s administration.

Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey), the former Managing Director of RDC and MDP National Council President for the Maduvvari constituency, has expressed concern over the lack of progress on the R. Meedhoo hospital project, which saw its foundation stone laid ahead of the local council elections.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program, Moosa noted that while the slow progress of the Meedhoo Hospital project was a point of criticism during the previous MDP administration, the current government’s only action has been to re-award the project to the Road Development Corporation (RDC)—the same entity it was already assigned to under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration.
Moosa stated that approximately 25 staff members were recruited after the project was handed over to RDC for a second time. However, he noted that no actual progress has been made on the work.
The site remains fenced off and overgrown with wilderness, with absolutely no progress or activity to be seen. For a leader who came to power promising rapid results, President Muizzu has yet to even come within sight of delivering on those pledges. What the entire nation is witnessing is that, among all those who have held the presidency of the Maldives, President Muizzu is proving to be the most ineffective, slowest, and most lethargic leader in the country's history.Moosa Alimaniku (Mookey)
Referring to Health Minister Geela Ali’s statement that the Meedhoo Hospital project would be completed by late next year, Moosa noted that the legal procedures required to transfer the project from RDC to MTCC could take up to two years. He further remarked that, to date, nothing has ever proceeded according to the Minister's assurances.
The physical work for the R. Meedhoo Hospital project commenced in March this year. The project was officially inaugurated by the then Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Member of Parliament for the Maduvvari constituency, Ahmed Zahir, and the Managing Director of RDC, Ibrahim Nazim.
A 30-bed hospital is scheduled to be developed in Meedhoo. The project has been officially awarded to the Road Development Corporation (RDC).
When questioned about the project during the President's Office "Ahaa" forum, Health Minister Geela confirmed that the government has decided to transfer the project to MTCC. Minister Geela further stated that the legal procedures required to transfer the project from RDC to MTCC are currently underway.
