Rising Maldivian resistance against Jewish settlers in Ras Malé and the coming crisis

15 އޮކްޓޯބަރު 2026 | ބުރާސްފަތި 11:20

Statements made by Ahmed Aslam, MP for Bilehdhoo constituency, have revealed alleged government plans to sell land and settle Zionists under the Ras Malé project. The text highlights concerns that such developments could lead Maldivian "Mujahideen" to rise in opposition, creating a fear that the Maldives may become a "second Palestine."

An old piece of folk wisdom reminds us that relentless digging inevitably yields more findings, ceaseless stirring brings hidden filth into plain view, and lifting up any rock reveals whatever rot was deliberately tucked away underneath.

The unfolding theater surrounding President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ambitious Ras Malé initiative adheres precisely to this unflattering pattern. First came a sly pivot in the administration's initial promotional spin, swiftly followed by a radical overhaul of the entire development blueprint.

Publicly funded reclaimed land was suddenly being doled out in ways that raised glaring questions, shrouded in deep deceptions and dubious backroom maneuvers.

Scandal after scandal is breaking out into the open, and the general populace is belatedly waking up to the scheme, watching closely as secrets meant to remain buried are forcefully dragged into daylight.

When the ruling bench pulls back the curtain

One especially illuminating disclosure arrived courtesy of Ahmed Aslam, the People’s National Congress (PNC) parliamentarian representing the Bilehdhoo constituency. While he delivered his commentary laced with mockery to belittle the political opposition, his narrative proved far heavier than casual legislative banter. His assertions were not necessarily false either; rather, they formed an uncomfortably persuasive argument in favor of his underlying message.

During that legislative gathering on October 12, his flippant rhetoric appeared to pull the shroud off genuine state intent, accidentally exposing the real, unvarnished scheme President Muizzu’s administration is frantically attempting to disguise.

The primary takeaway from Aslam’s floor speech was an unmistakable admission that there is genuine merit behind allegations of Zionists being earmarked for relocation to Ras Malé.

He brazenly told the chamber that local citizens ought not to stress over such settlers moving in, but his subsequent remarks disclosed precisely what kind of hospitality is being envisioned for these prospective inhabitants.

According to Aslam, any such foreign arrivals would find peaceful residency entirely impossible due to unrelenting local antagonism, arguing that their presence presents zero danger because citizens will mobilize immediately against them.

He laid out a hypothetical scenario in which newcomers acquire units within the newly erected complexes, the very empty properties described by opposition critics. He joked about having the chance to flank an incoming Israeli squatter by stationing the representative from Vaikaradhoo, Hussein Ziyad on one flank of the property, with the honorable member from Kulhudhuffushi North, Abdul Ghafoor, stationed directly on the other. His plan anticipated that the moment nighttime Isha supplications came to an end, Ziyad would blast Miuraj Maulood from his compound, while Ghafoor would simultaneously unleash the recitations of Seerath at deafening volume.

The unbearable racket, in his calculation, would rob the unwanted resident of any rest, ensuring an abrupt departure. Aslam then reminded the legislative speaker that the Maldives is historically a territory rooted in holy combat that routinely produces frontline fighters.

Whenever national survival previously dictated it, selfless warriors answered the call to battle for land and faith. He asserted that this soil breeds defenders capable of mirroring the iconic resistance campaigns waged by figures like Saladin Al-Ayyubi, George Washington, and Mahatma Gandhi on behalf of their homelands, meaning current citizens have no reason to be intimidated.

Invoking holy resistance in an official pipeline

The inescapable conclusion here is startlingly candid. Aslam's parliamentary showcase signals that a program to plant Zionists into Ras Malé is an authentic operational consideration. Even if state authorities actively open the gates, an angry cross-section of the Maldivian public will inevitably rise in revolt to take their country back through sacred struggle.

Alternatively, this may signify an even more cynical tactic, wherein the regime itself schemes to unleash public fury on these newcomers once they arrive.

Citizens may very well organize a religious defense, consistent with past traditions of courageously fighting on behalf of their nation and creed through both public campaigns and covert operations.

Former Home Minister and former head of the Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran Abdulla, who cautioned that citizens will hardly remain passive observers while the sovereign Maldivian state is permanently signed away to Zionists.

The burning question remains where this chaotic trajectory terminates.

If Muizzu engineers legislative frameworks to authorize this demographic influx and successfully installs these foreign residents, what transpires when the local populace, tracking Aslam’s combative rhetoric, launches an offensive against those living inside the complex?

If citizens refuse to stomach the permanent surrender of the republic to foreign hands, an unprecedented domestic firestorm will be sparked.

Historical precedent in Palestine demonstrates that after original parcels of real estate were conceded, an incoming minority seized the apparatus of power, declared the state of Israel upon Palestinian soil, and pursued widespread killings and demographic expulsions against the native population.

There is zero guarantee that the Maldives is immune to the exact same sequence of events.

The dilemma intensifies when considering the reaction if an open conflict is declared against the property buyers residing in Muizzu's signature Ras Malé development.

If incoming tenants are invited in merely to serve as sitting targets for domestic hostility, will a mega-investor like Alabbar, who has secured long-term ownership over Ras Malé terrain, tolerate such destabilization?

Can Muizzu and his governing circle, who have leveraged this public acreage for financial gain under dubious transactions, really weather the fallout?

When Jihadists mobilize to initiate an open campaign against the foreign residents dwelling within Ras Malé, the ultimate hazard is whether this fragile island chain will inadvertently transform into an Indian Ocean equivalent of Palestine.
