Former Member of Parliament and legal expert Ali Hussain has stated that the government's intentions are being called into serious question following the signing of an agreement in Dubai to award a significant portion of the Ras Male' project to Abu Dhabi-based Eagle Hills.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "TV Talk" program, Ali Hussain emphasized that the choice of country is a critical factor when signing a contract or Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He explained that under private international law, the agreement would be governed by the legal framework and jurisdiction of the country where it is executed.
Furthermore, noting that the land is located in the Maldives and the investment is being made within the country, Ali Hussain stated that signing the agreement in Dubai raises significant questions regarding the government's intentions.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the government has signed agreements abroad with individuals who support Zionists, structured in a manner that bypasses Maldivian law. He noted that these agreements are designed to ensure that even in the event of a dispute requiring arbitration, the Maldivian legal system and courts are entirely sidelined.
He stated that this is an inescapable agreement and urged Maldivians to rise up in opposition against it.
Ali Hussain has stated that the government's decisions regarding the leasing and sale of land under the Ras Male' project facilitate corruption, asserting that criminal charges must be brought against President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu over the matter.
The government's decision to award a significant portion of this project to Abu Dhabi-based Eagle Hills has drawn widespread criticism. Some observers have raised concerns that granting such extensive control to foreign entities over the project could pose a threat to national security.
