What we are witnessing now is an attempt to exploit constitutional loopholes to sell Maldivian land to foreign entities: Maaz Saleem

MDP National Council member Ahmed Saleem (Maaz Saleem) has stated that current efforts indicate an attempt to exploit constitutional loopholes to sell Maldivian land to foreign entities.

In an interview with RaajjeTV, Maaz Saleem stated that while the Maldives must be governed in accordance with the Constitution, current events suggest otherwise. He further emphasized that a leader elected for a five-year term should not have the authority to sell Maldivian land in perpetuity.

He alleged that there is a significant hidden agenda behind the Ras Male' project, claiming that the objective is to sell Maldivian land to wealthy Israeli investors.

Selling off land and facilitating settlement here—we are all too familiar with how Israel established settlements on Palestinian soil. It is crystal clear that the Palestinian people have endured the atrocities of Israeli citizens for generations. Therefore, we do not want Israeli citizens brought here to the land adjacent to our capital city. We will not allow Israeli buildings to be constructed here, nor will we permit Israel to exert control and transform this area into an Israeli territory.

Maaz Saleem has filed a formal complaint with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), alleging significant embezzlement and corruption regarding the allocation of 500 hectares of reclaimed land from the Ras Male' project to Abu Dhabi’s Eagle Hills company. The complaint highlights that the land was granted for a 99-year lease period free of charge.
